Preventing Sinusitis

To avoid developing sinusitis during a cold or allergy attack, keep your sinuses clear by:

  • Using an oral decongestant or a short course of nasal spray decongestant
  • To keep nasal discharge thin, you can use this technique: gently blow your nose and block one nostril by blowing through the other
  • Avoiding air travel. If you must fly, use a nasal spray decongestant before take-off to prevent blockage of the sinuses allowing mucus to drain
  • If you have allergies try to avoid contact with substances that trigger attacks

Allergy testing, followed by appropriate allergy treatments, may increase your tolerance of allergy-causing substances.

Sinusitis vs. Sinus Infection

Acute bacterial sinusitis is an infection of the sinus cavities caused by bacteria.

It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants.

Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a physician's diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection and prevent future complication.

Chronic Maxillary Sinusitis

Sinusitis is a condition caused by a blockage of bacteria and mucus in the sinus cavities.  When a person has existing swelling of the sinus cavities caused by a cold or allergy, bacteria can get into the cavities and attack the swollen lining causing greater inflammation and causing the cilia to not function correctly.  The cilia then can no longer flush out the bacteria and mucus, and the sinusitis infection begins.  Some of the symptoms of sinusitis are cough, congestion, facial pain and pressure, green nasal discharge, and postnasal drip.  When the sinusitis infection lasts for twelve or more weeks it is considered chronic and can have other symptoms such as loss of sense of taste and smell and the person may become fatigued.  The maxillary sinuses are located behind the cheekbones, between the upper teeth and the eyes.  Some additional symptoms that can be experienced with maxillary sinusitis are cheek pain and pressure in the eyes.

There are several different treatments for maxillary, chronic, and all other forms of sinusitis.  Often a physician will prescribe oral antibiotics to treat many types of infections.  Oral antibiotics work on infections by flowing through the blood stream to the infected area.  However, the sinus cavities only have a small amount of blood vessels, so it is difficult for an efficient amount of medication to be delivered to the sinus cavities.  Prescribed and over the counter nasal sprays are also used.  Nasal sprays may only offer relief to the lower part of the sinuses since they have a large particle size which is too large to make it past the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavities and up to the sinusitis infection.

Sinus Dynamics is the most innovative treatment for chronic maxillary sinusitis and all other forms of this condition.  Sinus Dynamics antibiotics, anti-fungals, and anti-inflammatories are used in a nebulized form, making it simple for their 3.2 micron sized particles to make their way through the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavities and into the infection.  Sinus Dynamics nebulized medications are much more effective since they are distributed directly to where the sinusitis infection lies.  There are also little to no side effects since Sinus Dynamics medications are topical.  Sinus Dynamics has a 98% success rate in patients, which clearly shows that it is the safest and most successful treatment for sinusitis.
