Preventing Sinusitis

To avoid developing sinusitis during a cold or allergy attack, keep your sinuses clear by:

  • Using an oral decongestant or a short course of nasal spray decongestant
  • To keep nasal discharge thin, you can use this technique: gently blow your nose and block one nostril by blowing through the other
  • Avoiding air travel. If you must fly, use a nasal spray decongestant before take-off to prevent blockage of the sinuses allowing mucus to drain
  • If you have allergies try to avoid contact with substances that trigger attacks

Allergy testing, followed by appropriate allergy treatments, may increase your tolerance of allergy-causing substances.

Sinusitis vs. Sinus Infection

Acute bacterial sinusitis is an infection of the sinus cavities caused by bacteria.

It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants.

Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a physician's diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection and prevent future complication.

Sinusitis Fungal Infection

A sinusitis infection is an inflammation or blockage of the sinuses.  Sinusitis infections can be caused by a cold, bacteria, fungus, or allergies.  When the normal inflammation of the sinuses, which happens with colds or allergies, gets attacked by bacteria in the sinus cavity, more inflammation occurs and the mucus and bacteria can no longer flush out by action of the cilia and a sinusitis infection begins.  Everyday people breath in different kinds of fungal spores.  Some people however have a different reaction to the fungi, and a fungal infection begins which also may lead to a sinusitis infection.  There are many different symptoms of a sinusitis infection which may include congestion, cough, facial pain, and green nasal discharge.

There are many treatment forms for a sinusitis infection.  A common treatment for sinusitis is nasal sprays.  With nasal sprays, it is difficult for a sufficient amount of the medication to travel into the sinus cavity, due to its large particle size.  Oral antibiotics are also commonly used.  Antibiotics enter the blood stream and travel through it to the area of infection.  In the sinus cavity there are very few blood cells, so the antibiotic cannot fight the infection to its full extent.  When nasal sprays and oral antibiotics fail the patient, many physicians will give the patient sinus surgery.  In sinus surgery, only part of the inflammation and infection is cleaned out, therefore, the infection usually returns and the patient may often times need another surgery.

Sinus Dynamics nebulized antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and anti-fungals are the most effective form of treatment.  Their anti-fungals will help get rid of the fungi and the infection.  Sinus Dynamics 3.2 micron particle size allows the medication to easily travel though the inflammation, into the sinus cavities to rapidly fight the infection.  There are little to no side effects since the small amount of topical medication works only in the blood vessels in the sinus cavities.  With Sinus Dynamics 98% success rate, it is the most safe and effective form of treatment for sinus infections.
