Preventing Sinusitis

To avoid developing sinusitis during a cold or allergy attack, keep your sinuses clear by:

  • Using an oral decongestant or a short course of nasal spray decongestant
  • To keep nasal discharge thin, you can use this technique: gently blow your nose and block one nostril by blowing through the other
  • Avoiding air travel. If you must fly, use a nasal spray decongestant before take-off to prevent blockage of the sinuses allowing mucus to drain
  • If you have allergies try to avoid contact with substances that trigger attacks

Allergy testing, followed by appropriate allergy treatments, may increase your tolerance of allergy-causing substances.

Sinusitis vs. Sinus Infection

Acute bacterial sinusitis is an infection of the sinus cavities caused by bacteria.

It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants.

Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a physician's diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection and prevent future complication.

Sinusitis Headache

Sinusitis is an inflammatory condition of the sinus cavities.  When a person has a cold or allergy, swelling occurs in the cavities.  The sinusitis takes place when bacteria attack the already swollen cavities, causing larger inflammation.  The inflammation happens in the sinus cavity and its opening, therefore the cilia can no longer flush out the bacteria and mucus since the opening to the cavities is so swollen.  There are many symptoms for sinusitis which consist of post-nasal drip, cough, congestion, nasal discharge, and facial pain.  A person may also experience a headache with sinusitis.  This sinus headache may happen because of the stimulation of nerves for the reason of the inflammation pressure.

A person may take a pain reliever for a sinusitis headache, and if it works, it will only be temporary relief since this isn’t a headache caused by normal factors.  There are many treatments for sinusitis itself.  Often times a physician will prescribe oral antibiotics to get rid of the infection.  Oral antibiotics work by flowing though the blood stream to the area of infection.  Unfortunately in the sinus cavities there are very few blood vessels, so an efficient amount of medication cannot be delivered.  Nasal sprays are also frequently used.  Nasal sprays may offer relief to only the lower part of the sinuses since the nasal spray particle size is too large to make it past the inflammation at the opening of the sinuses and into where the infection lies.

Sinus Dynamics is the most innovative form of treatment for sinusitis.  Sinus Dynamics antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and anti-fungals are used in a nebulized form, making it simple for the 3.2 micron particles to make their way through the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavity, and strait to the sinusitis infection.  Sinus Dynamics nebulized antibiotics are much more effective than oral antibiotics since they are directly nebulized into the infection.  There are little to no side effects since a small amount of Sinus Dynamics topical medication is used.  Sinus Dynamics has a 98% success rate in patients which clearly shows that it is the safest and most successful treatment for sinusitis.
