Preventing Sinusitis

To avoid developing sinusitis during a cold or allergy attack, keep your sinuses clear by:

  • Using an oral decongestant or a short course of nasal spray decongestant
  • To keep nasal discharge thin, you can use this technique: gently blow your nose and block one nostril by blowing through the other
  • Avoiding air travel. If you must fly, use a nasal spray decongestant before take-off to prevent blockage of the sinuses allowing mucus to drain
  • If you have allergies try to avoid contact with substances that trigger attacks

Allergy testing, followed by appropriate allergy treatments, may increase your tolerance of allergy-causing substances.

Sinusitis vs. Sinus Infection

Acute bacterial sinusitis is an infection of the sinus cavities caused by bacteria.

It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants.

Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a physician's diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection and prevent future complication.

Sinusitis Pressure and Infection

A sinusitis infection is a condition caused by a blockage of bacteria and mucus in the sinus cavity.  This blockage takes place when there is an existing inflammation from a cold or allergy which gets attacked by bacteria.  When the bacteria attack, greater inflammation occurs and the cilia can no longer flush out the bacteria and mucus and the sinusitis infection begins.  There are several symptoms of a sinusitis infection such as congestion, cough, postnasal drip, and green nasal discharge.  Facial pain and pressure may also occur because of the inflammation putting pressure on the nerves.  A person may also experience a headache because of the pressure on the nerves.

There are many treatments for sinusitis.  One common treatment for sinusitis is oral antibiotics.  Oral antibiotics work on infections by flowing through the blood stream to the area of infection.  In the sinuses there are very blood vessels so and efficient amount of medication can not be delivered.  The same holds true for decongestants and other oral medications.  Nasal sprays also are used but may only offer relief to the lower part of the sinuses since the particle sizes are too large to make it past the inflammation at the open of the sinus cavities and up to the infection.  Surgery is also another option.  Surgery is usually painful and may only offer temporary relief for sinusitis since only a portion of the inflammation and infection is removed, so it usually comes back.

Sinus Dynamics is the most innovative form of treatment for sinusitis.  Sinus Dynamics antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and anti-fungals are used in a nebulized form, making it simple for the 3.2 micron particles to make their way through the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavity, and strait to the sinusitis infection.  Sinus Dynamics nebulized antibiotics are much more effective than oral antibiotics since they are directly nebulized into the sinusitis infection.  There are little to no side effects since a small amount of Sinus Dynamics topical medication is used.  Sinus Dynamics has a 98% success rate in patients which clearly shows that it is the safest and most successful treatment for a sinusitis infection.
