Preventing Sinusitis

To avoid developing sinusitis during a cold or allergy attack, keep your sinuses clear by:

  • Using an oral decongestant or a short course of nasal spray decongestant
  • To keep nasal discharge thin, you can use this technique: gently blow your nose and block one nostril by blowing through the other
  • Avoiding air travel. If you must fly, use a nasal spray decongestant before take-off to prevent blockage of the sinuses allowing mucus to drain
  • If you have allergies try to avoid contact with substances that trigger attacks

Allergy testing, followed by appropriate allergy treatments, may increase your tolerance of allergy-causing substances.

Sinusitis vs. Sinus Infection

Acute bacterial sinusitis is an infection of the sinus cavities caused by bacteria.

It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants.

Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a physician's diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection and prevent future complication.

Sinusitis Scar Tissue

Sinusitis is a condition in the sinus cavities caused by a blockage of bacteria and mucus.  The blockage starts when a person has existing swelling of the sinus cavities do to a cold or allergy.  When bacteria get into the sinus cavities and attack the already swollen lining, greater inflammation takes which then causes the cilia to no longer be able to flush out the bacteria and mucus, and the infection begins.  There are many symptoms of a sinusitis infection.  Commonly a person will experience congestion, facial pain and pressure, postnasal drip, and green nasal discharge.  When the sinusitis lasts for twelve or more weeks it is considered chronic sinusitis and may have additional symptoms such as loss and sense of taste and smell, and a person may become fatigued.

There are many treatments for sinusitis.  Frequently a physician will prescribe oral antibiotics.  Oral antibiotics work by traveling through the blood stream to the area of infection.  In the sinus cavities however, there are only a small amount of blood vessels so it is difficult for an efficient amount of medication to be delivered to the sinusitis infection.  Nasal sprays are also frequently used though they may only offer relief to the lower part of the sinuses since their particle size is too large to make it past the inflammation at the opening of the cavities and up to the sinusitis infection.  Surgery is an option which is usually used after all other treatments have failed.  Surgery is painful and commonly only offers temporary relief since they only remove a portion of the inflammation and infection.  Surgery can also leave scar tissue which can cause further problems in the future.

Sinus Dynamics offers the latest and fastest technology in the treatment of sinusitis.  Sinus Dynamics compounded, topical medications can easily manage though the inflammation and scar tissue to get to the area of the sinusitis infection when nebulized.  Sinus Dynamics works differently than oral antibiotics because they are distributed directly into the sinuses, so more of the medication is circulated  in the blood stream around the sinus area and not through out the rest of the body.  Sinus Dynamics also has a 3.2 micron particle size in their antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and anti-fungals, so it is easy for the medication to reach the infection, unlike in nasal sprays.  Sinus Dynamics is the most effective form of treatment in sinusitis, and that is clearly shown with their 98% success rate.
