Preventing Sinusitis

To avoid developing sinusitis during a cold or allergy attack, keep your sinuses clear by:

  • Using an oral decongestant or a short course of nasal spray decongestant
  • To keep nasal discharge thin, you can use this technique: gently blow your nose and block one nostril by blowing through the other
  • Avoiding air travel. If you must fly, use a nasal spray decongestant before take-off to prevent blockage of the sinuses allowing mucus to drain
  • If you have allergies try to avoid contact with substances that trigger attacks

Allergy testing, followed by appropriate allergy treatments, may increase your tolerance of allergy-causing substances.

Sinusitis vs. Sinus Infection

Acute bacterial sinusitis is an infection of the sinus cavities caused by bacteria.

It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants.

Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a physician's diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection and prevent future complication.

Symptoms Sinusitis Infection

A sinusitis infection is an inflammation infection on the nasal cavity lining.  The sinusitis infection begins when the normal swelling in the sinus cavity lining caused by a cold or allergies, gets attacked by bacteria and as a result becomes more inflamed since the bacteria and mucus can not drain by way of the cilia.  The symptoms of a sinusitis infection are congestion, postnasal drip, headache, facial pain, and green nasal discharge.   When a sinusitis infection lasts more than twelve weeks, it is considered chronic.  The same symptoms can continue and patients may become fatigued and have a loss of sense of smell and taste.  Some medications may also cause sinus infections such as aspirin and topical nasal decongestants.

Oral antibiotics are often used by physicians to try and clear up sinusitis infection.  Because of the small amount of vessels in the sinus cavities, it is difficult for the antibiotics (which work through the blood stream) to work to their full potential.  Nasal sprays are also often used to relieve sinusitis infections.  Nasal sprays may only help any congestion in the lower nasal passage because of their larger particle size not being able to make it through the swelling in the sinus cavity opening.  Patients may also try decongestants, though they have the same problem as the oral antibiotics, since they also work by using the blood stream.

Sinus Dynamics is a groundbreaking treatment for sinusitis infections that will clear the symptoms of a sinus infection and also the infection itself.  Sinus Dynamics uses the top of the line technology to fight sinusitis.  Sinus Dynamics is a new form of nebulized therapy, which uses anti-inflammatories, anti-fungals, and antibiotics to relive sinusitis rapidly.  Because of Sinus Dynamics 3.2 micron particle size, it works quickly to get into the sinuses through the infection and inflammation.  There are little to no side effects with Sinus Dynamics medications and it is safe, easy, and has a 98% success rate in patients.
