Preventing Sinusitis

To avoid developing sinusitis during a cold or allergy attack, keep your sinuses clear by:

  • Using an oral decongestant or a short course of nasal spray decongestant
  • To keep nasal discharge thin, you can use this technique: gently blow your nose and block one nostril by blowing through the other
  • Avoiding air travel. If you must fly, use a nasal spray decongestant before take-off to prevent blockage of the sinuses allowing mucus to drain
  • If you have allergies try to avoid contact with substances that trigger attacks

Allergy testing, followed by appropriate allergy treatments, may increase your tolerance of allergy-causing substances.

Sinusitis vs. Sinus Infection

Acute bacterial sinusitis is an infection of the sinus cavities caused by bacteria.

It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants.

Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a physician's diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection and prevent future complication.

Treating a Sinusitis Infection

A sinusitis infection is an inflammation condition of the sinus cavities.  A sinusitis infection begins when a person has existing swelling of the sinus cavities, usually from a cold or allergy, that gets attacked by bacteria and as a result, greater inflammation occurs and the cilia can no longer flush out the bacteria and mucus.  There are several symptoms of a sinusitis infection which may include postnasal drip, green nasal discharge, facial pain and pressure, cough, and congestion.  When the sinusitis infection lasts for twelve weeks or more it is considered chronic and a patient can experience more severe symptoms such as loss of sense of taste and smell and they may become fatigued.

There are many different ways of treating a sinusitis infection.  One treatment is oral antibiotics.  Oral antibiotics work by traveling through the blood stream to the area of infection.  In the sinuses however, there are only a small amount of blood vessels so it is difficult for an effective amount of medication to be delivered to the sinusitis infection.  Another way of treating a sinusitis infection is by using nasal sprays.  Nasal sprays may only offer relief to the lower part of the sinuses since its particle size is too large to make it past the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavities and up to the sinusitis infection.

The best way of treating a sinusitis infection is by using Sinus Dynamics.  Sinus Dynamics is a different kind of treatment that will clear up the infection and its symptoms.  Sinus Dynamics uses a nebulized form of anti-inflammatories, antibiotics, and anti-fungals to clear the sinusitis infection.  Because of Sinus Dynamics 3.2 micron particle size, it can easily and quickly make it past the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavities and up to the sinusitis infection.  There are little to no side effects with Sinus Dynamics medications since they are topical and since they are applied right where the problem lies.  Sinus Dynamics nebulized therapy is safe, easy, and has a 98% success rate it patients.
