Preventing Sinusitis

To avoid developing sinusitis during a cold or allergy attack, keep your sinuses clear by:

  • Using an oral decongestant or a short course of nasal spray decongestant
  • To keep nasal discharge thin, you can use this technique: gently blow your nose and block one nostril by blowing through the other
  • Avoiding air travel. If you must fly, use a nasal spray decongestant before take-off to prevent blockage of the sinuses allowing mucus to drain
  • If you have allergies try to avoid contact with substances that trigger attacks

Allergy testing, followed by appropriate allergy treatments, may increase your tolerance of allergy-causing substances.

Sinusitis vs. Sinus Infection

Acute bacterial sinusitis is an infection of the sinus cavities caused by bacteria.

It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants.

Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a physician's diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection and prevent future complication.

Viral Sinusitis

Sinusitis is an infection caused a blockage of bacteria and mucus in the sinus cavities.  This blockage occurs when a patient has existing swelling of the sinus cavity lining which is usually caused by a cold or allergy.  When a person develops sinusitis from a cold, it is considered viral sinusitis.  Common symptoms of a sinusitis include congestion, cough, facial pain and pressure, green nasal discharge, and postnasal drip.  When a person has a bacterial sinusitis infection, there tends to be more facial pain and fever than when a person has a viral sinusitis infection.  When a sinusitis infection lasts for twelve weeks or more, it is considered viral and may have added symptoms such as loss of sense of taste and smell and the person may become fatigued.

Sinusitis has many diverse forms of treatment.  One of the most common treatments is oral antibiotics.  Oral antibiotics work on infections when they enter the blood stream and move through it to the area of infection.  Oral antibiotics work on many infections, but in the sinuses, there are a small amount of blood vessels so it is difficult for an effective amount of medication to be distributed into the sinusitis infection.  Nasal sprays are often used and can be prescribed of purchased over the counter.  Nasal sprays do not always work effectively due to their large particle size.  It is difficult for the large particles to travel past the sinus cavity opening because of the inflammation.

Sinus Dynamics offers the latest and fastest technology in the treatment of sinusitis.  Sinus Dynamics uses compounded, topical medications can easily manage though the inflammation to get to the area of the sinusitis infection when nebulized.  Sinus Dynamics works differently than oral antibiotics because they are distributed directly into the sinuses, so more of the medication is circulated  in the blood stream around the sinus area and not through out the rest of the body.  Sinus Dynamics also has a 3.2 micron particle size in their antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and anti-fungals, so it is easy for the medication to reach the infection, unlike in nasal sprays.  Sinus Dynamics is the most effective form of treatment in sinusitis, and that is clearly shown with their 98% success rate.
